We live in a day and age of great significance and urgency. Both the climate and civilization itself is at risk of collapse. Mankind does have the power and responsibility to consciously pursue policies which are more ethically, environmentally and societally sustainable if it is to increase its chances of making it through to the next millennium.
Issues such as global warming, plastic pollution, deforestation, over-fishing, wealth disparities, famine and disease are just a few of the long host of issues we are currently facing as a species, and are inflicting on other fauna and flora as well.
Here at The Knotted Sloth, we as human beings, are not free from guilt either as we all have contributed to our current crisis in one way or another. However, we are determined to do the best we can to minimize the footprints we leave behind through our business operations.
It all starts with our commitment to sourcing and providing only the most natural and environmentally friendly hair and body care products. All our vendors are well researched, come highly recommended by others, and have been tested rigorously by our team over the years to ensure that the best hair and body care experience is brought to you with the peace of mind that all our products are all natural and mountain-stream friendly.
Packaging is a big part of where non-recyclable waste adds up and is almost impossible to eliminate in the consumer cycle. We are doing our very best in our treehouse studio to not provide plastic packaging and where necessary, only use 100% biodegradable or recyclable materials for all our packaging and marketing necessities. We have managed to cut down the use of single-use plastics in our day to day business operations except for the plastic packaging which some of our featured products come in. For those who want to go totally green, we always encourage and recommend the use of soap and shampoo bars instead.
In an additional effort to curb the use of non-biodegradable resources, we have chosen to minimize our reliance on single-use papers and printers in our day-to-day business operations. This means that all receipts and invoices will be sent through email rather than the more wasteful option of printing on paper.
A simple system which we have set up here in our studio to help give back to causes which are important to us.
We are committed to donating 5% of all our monthly proceeds earned from dreadlock services rendered to a charity of our choosing.
We will seek to rotate these charities from month to month so that we are able to serve a larger variety of needy causes. We figured that a simple and humble home-based business can also do its part to be part of the solution no matter how big or small the impact.
Enquire with us to find out which causes we are supporting and highlighting for the month!
We are always keen about hearing and learning more about good causes and charities which you are passionate about – next time you are in for an appointment, have a chat with us and we might add it to the rotation on our list!
